Start a community
Create a community for a class, a cohort, a topic or a city, choose who can join, then invite people.
Anyone can start a community, as long as they are already on a startup, organization, investor or mentor page on StartupCorners.
Create it
- In the menu, open Discover and choose Communities. Then choose Create community at the top.
- Basics: pick a type: School or university, Cohort, Interest, Industry, Regional or Practice. Type the Community name and check its Link, which is filled from the name. A tagline, a description (Write with AI drafts one) and topics are optional. If you own or run more than one company, pick the one shown as running the community under Run by. It starts on the company you are working in.
- Access: under Who can join, pick Public (anyone can find and join), Approval required (people apply, you approve) or Invite only (only people you invite can join). You can also set a Member limit (optional), and under Open to (optional) let in only founders, investors, program managers, startups or organizations.
- With Approval required, add the questions people answer when they apply, under Application form.
- Features: keep Group chat on to give members a shared chat with channels. Add a Welcome message and Rules if you like.
- Choose Create community.
You become the owner. The community opens on its Members page, ready for you to invite people.
For a class, the School or university type switches access to Invite only (marked Best for a class), and students can join with any email address.
Let AI fill it in
Under Fill it in with AI, describe your community in a sentence or two in Describe your community and choose Fill in every step. It replaces what you typed, so check each step before you create the community.
Change it later
Switch to the community in the workspace menu and choose Edit page in the sidebar. Community settings has its name, Run by (for the owner, when they run more than one company), Access, features and welcome message. A school community stays with its university. Choose Save changes when you are done.
