Use your team's channels
Talk with your whole team in channels like
Your startup, firm or organization has its own channels, like a community does. Everyone on your team is in every channel, so a message in #general reaches the whole team.
Find your channels
Open your company's workspace. Your channels are under Channels in the menu, starting with #general. A bold name or a dot means new messages; a number means someone mentioned you.
On a phone, open the Messages tab: your channels are listed under Channels, above your direct messages.
Channel messages stay in the channels: they are not listed in Messages with your conversations.
Add a channel
Anyone on the team can add one, for a project or a topic.
- Choose + next to Channels.
- Give it a Name, and a Topic if you like (it shows next to the name).
- Choose Add channel. Everyone on the team is in it right away.
Owners and admins can also tick Announcement channel: only owners and admins post in it, and everyone else reads, reacts and replies in threads.
Rename, move or delete a channel
Owners and admins open the menu next to a channel's name:
- Edit channel changes its name and topic.
- Move up and Move down change its place in the list.
- Delete channel removes it and its messages. #general cannot be deleted.
When people join or leave
Someone who joins your team is added to every channel. Someone who leaves or is removed from the team leaves every channel at once.
