Import people or companies from a spreadsheet
Bring an investor list, a customer list or contacts into your CRM from a CSV file, check what will happen first, and undo it for 24 hours.
You can bring a spreadsheet into your CRM in one go: the investors you met at a demo day, a waitlist, or contacts from another tool. Save it as CSV first (in Excel or Google Sheets, save or download as CSV). The first row names the columns. A file can have up to 10,000 rows.
Import a file
- In the CRM, open a list, like Investors, or a page like People, and choose Import CSV.
- Choose Choose a CSV file and pick your file.
- Check how the columns are matched. Each column of your file has an example and where it Goes to. Most are matched for you, like Email to Emails and Firm to Company. Pick another field, Add as a note, or Don't import. Owners and admins can also choose Create a field to add a new field for that column.
- Check the choices above the columns:
- Each row is: a person, a company or a deal.
- Also add them to: a list. For a list of companies, like Investors, each person's company goes in.
- At stage: the stage new entries start at, when your file has no stage column.
- Someone already in your CRM (same email): Fill their empty fields, Use the file's values, or Leave them as they are.
- Choose Next: review. You see how many are new, how many are already in your CRM, how many new companies will be made, and which rows are skipped and why. Nothing is saved yet.
- Choose Import. Keep the window open while the rows go in.
People are matched by email and companies by domain, so importing the same file twice does not make anyone twice. A person's company is found by their work email's domain or by its name, or made. A row with no name and no email is skipped.
Cells that are left out
Amounts like $1.5M or €200K, dates like Sep 29, 2026 or 9/29/2026, and yes or no all work. A cell that does not fit its field, like "a lot" in an amount, is left out and named in the review; the rest of its row is imported. A stage your list does not have is added when an owner or admin imports, and left out when a member does.
Undo an import
For 24 hours after an import, the list or page shows what it did, like "investors.csv imported: 231 added, 14 updated, 3 skipped". Choose See skipped rows to see why rows were skipped. Choose Undo import, then Undo import again, to take it back: the people and companies it added are deleted, its notes go, and the people it updated go back to how they were. Fields someone changed since the import keep their new value. Stages it added stay.
The person who imported, or an owner or admin, can undo it.
